Vantage Reading ProgramThe Vantage Reading Program is used in partnership with the Vantage Vision program ...both are done at the same time. The programs together address the needs of those students who have vision skills deficits as the major cause of their reading difficulties. Our new Reading Programs for the non-reader and the learning disabled work. Our reading programs address the needs of a wide range of skill development – from the very beginning reader to the more able readers. The variety we offer is a component to successful reading instruction, as the range ensures the reading material is at the appropriate level. There are three levels that differentiate reading instruction. The Frustration level is when the student cannot read many words of a selection. The Fluency level is when the student can read the material effortlessly. The Instructional level is when the student can read most of the words but needs instructions to decode some of them. To begin our program, we recommend that materials chosen be at the student’s Fluency level. Fluency level is usually below the student’s grade level at school. We have developed reading programs at each of the following levels. When deciding on a reading "group" it is the reading level at which they are reading, not the grade a student is in, that is important. Group One: start here for non-readers and for those at a “beginning Grade One” level. Group two: start here for readers fluent at an “end of Grade One” level. Group three: start here for readers fluent at an “end of Grade Two” level. Group four: start here for readers fluent at an “end of Grade Three” level. Group five: start here for readers fluent at an “end of Grade Four” level. EXAMPLES 1. If a child is in Grade two but reading poorly start with our Group One program. 2. If a child is in Grade three but reading poorly, start with our Group Two program. 3. If a child is in Grade four or five and is reading poorly start with our Group Two program. 4. Some children are non-readers or beginning readers even though they are in Grade Four or up. These children must start with our Group One program. 5. To complete the program, use the group that he or she starts with, plus one reading group more. For example, if they start with reading group 3 finish at the end of reading group 4.
