Barcley Manderson owner and head guide on the prowl for coho salmon THE FISHING EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME Fish the kitimat River with Barcley or one of his born to fish guides. Take advantage of their enthusiasm, great sense of humour and ability to hook fish. Couple that with spectacular scenery, good chances of spotting river otters, bald eagles, foxes, king fishers, osprey and grizzlies. You will have a day to remember. The Kitimat River offers year round fishing. January, February and March are cutthroat months with lots of perfectly coloured and proportioned fish. March and April mean steelhead battles with silver darts sometimes weighing in at seven kilograms. May, June and July chinook return to the river with some lunkers tipping the scales at over twenty kilograms. Many chum and pink salmon also fill the river in July providing sensational fly fishing. August is quiet on the Kitimat River as the chinooks are closed and the chums and pinks are spawning. Nearby in Douglas Channel world class salt water fishing for coho is available. In September all hell breaks lose as the mighty coho salmon enter the river. Lots of six kilogram plus coho swim upstream ready and willing to hit a fly or lure. All that remains for you to do is pick your fish species and decide how tired you want your reeling hand to be at the end of a Kitimat River fishing day..
You will be picked up and returned at the end of the day by your fishing guide. Fishing will be from a drift boat which will seat three anglers. Your drift will take about twelve hours. Half day trips are available. Your fourteen kilometre drift will end at the big spruce pool near downtown Kitimat. On the way down you will fish many hot spots from the river and shoreline. Your fishing day will be tailored for you and your party. Children, seniors, novices, experts will have their fishing needs met to perfection. Yellowhead Guides will show a child how to land a hard fighting salmon or put an expert fly fisher into ideal big fish water.
